040Hosting is monitoring their network 24×7 and we act where needed to counter attacks, sometimes we see things which are different, this morning we saw a larger attack on one of our wordpress clients, this time it was not a bruteforce attack by 1 IP only but as we saw in December 2013 an attack from single systems likely being infected by malware. Obviously it is harder to stop many single systems as only 1 IP, but we found a way to recognize the stream and block it in our own global block list.
But what can you do as client or as visitor of such website ?
Well first of all, if you are the owner of a website, make sure you have installed all plugins needed to keep your site safe; for wordpress we highly recommend to use the bruteprotect plugin. For more details see our blog post earlier this year.
As a visitor you should make sure your system has no malware and is protected with a anti virus application, we recommend to use a good virus-scanner and keep it up to date.
We recommend BitDefender as it is one of the fastest but also uses less resources of your system, keeping your system secure while still having your performance.
